John was educated at Pyrmont Public School. He was living at Douglas Park when he enlisted 10 August 1915 at Warwick Farm. He gave his occupation as Labourer and his next of kin his wife Mrs Jessie Sabina Mary Watson of Douglas Park.

John served in the 4th and 53rd Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Port Lincoln' 14 October 1915 and arrived France via Egypt June 1916.

John's mother Annie states on his Roll of Honour circular that 'He only went into the firing line once and no trace has ever been found of him. He left his two little girls and his wife'. (Photo c1912. Courtesy of Stan and Denise Pillinger, Qld)

Private John Henry WATSON was reported missing in action at Fromelles in France 19 July 1916. A Court of Inquiry found he was killed in action at Fromelles in France 19 July 1916 age 25.
